What is Mediation?
Mediation is a collaborative process that is used to resolve conflicts over special education. Both schools and parents may request mediation. Participation by schools and parents is voluntary. A neutral, trained mediator, hired by the USBE, acts as an "intermediary" to help parties who may choose to create a legally enforceable agreement to resolve the dispute. Conversations in mediation are confidential.
