Independent Evaluations

What is an Independent Educational Evaluation?

If you do not agree with the results of the school-based evaluation of your child, you have the right to request an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE).  (See §300.502). This means you may ask that a professional, competent evaluator, who is not employed by the school/district, conduct another evaluation of your child.

The school may authorize and pay for the IEE or they may file for Due Process to demonstrate that their own evaluation was appropriate.

School districts often have a list of pre-approved evaluators.
